About me

Hi! Welcome to my website! Let me introduce myself – my name is Matyáš Klíma and I’m from Žďár nad Sázavou in the Czech Republic. I started with Lumberjack sports at the age of 17.

I suppose I should first mention my father Leoš Klíma. He has been doing Lumberjack sports since 2007, and has been among the top places in the Czech series for years. Because these sports are not as common in the Czech Republic as in other countries, we are one of the first families in the Czech Republic to build a tradition in Lumberjack sports.

Since childhood I have been interested in various sports such as ice hockey, handball, swimming or basketball. Ultimately, I had to stop playing basketball because of injury. That was the reason my father introduced me to Timbersports. In 2016 I participated in a training camp from Stihl Timbersports for the first time. Until that year I’d never done anything with an axe or chainsaw. But because of that experience I fell in love with the sport.

To be among the best in the world in Lumberjack sports you have to have tremendous patience and psychological resilience because to put everything that you need in one moment is very difficult. You must feel the axe and chainsaw, get enough strength and muscle and know how to use it, be precise and focused, learn proper technique and have a good mindset for the competitions. You must put all these things together to be successful.

It is like a lifelong journey to learn something new and gain experience. That is the reason why I travel at least once a year overseas to learn from the best.

If my story interests you, check out the photos and achievements on this page. Also, be sure to view my Instagram profile where I post photos and sometimes stories from the competitions.
Thanks for visiting my website. Have a great day!
